Digitizationof light opens up multi-faceted communication channels Audi lighting technology combines exceptional design with high functionality Close teamwork between Lighting Technology and Light Design as a success formula
Audi is advancing into new dimensions in automotive lighting technology. Originally, vehicle lighting mainly served the purpose of ensuring traffic safety for all road users. Previously unknown prospects are now opening up in the wake of digitizing headlights and rear lights: light becomes a medium of external communication and interaction, personalizes design, and provides customers with new styling and customization options.
Lighting has made a veritable technology leap: The evolution from halogen light to xenon headlights to LED technology in automobiles took less than two decades. These milestones of new technologies provided customers with noticeably added value. As well as continually enhancing visibility, Audi lighting has been defining the face of the brand’s models in every era while extending everyday usability by an equally communicative and aesthetic dimension. In the wake of the transformation of lamps, both illumination and energy efficiency improved. Now, digitization provides another innovation boost with all-new design potential: Light is becoming smart. By means of light signals, the car interacts with its surroundings. As farback as in 2003, the then A8 offered adaptive light with automatic-dynamic headlight range control before a camera on the windshield began detecting other road users in 2010. Two years later, the brand underpinned its innovative prowess and pioneering role in the R8: The introduction of the dynamic turn signal that allows indicated directional changes to be perceived out of the corner of one’s eye marked a significant gain in safety – and still does.
World premiere: The active digitallight signature sets headlights and rear lights in motion in an unprecedented way For the first time, customers can select digitallight signatures for the headlights and rear lights via the MMI and the myAudi app Package with digitallight signatures available on demand
This innovation will permanently change automotive light design and car-to-X communication: With second-generation digital OLED rear lights, the Audi Q6 e-tron is taking light design, range of functions, and road safety to a new level. Audi is gradually developing the technology into intelligent displays that can communicate with other road users by displaying information via the exterior lights – this is the new communication light. The active digitallight signature is another world first making its debut in the Audi Q6 e-tron. It makes an entirely new and vibrant impression, pointing the way to the future of Audi lighting technology. For the first time, customers can optionally select digitallight signatures for this new evolution of digital daytime running lights in the Matrix LED headlights and the new generation of digital OLED rear lights. In addition, customers may book digitallight signatures on demand.
The Q6 e-tron not only marks a new chapter in electromobility at Audi; lighting technology is an important part of Audi’s DNA. With the world’s first active digitallight signature, the Audi Q6 e-tron ushers in a new era characterized by distinctive design and aesthetics unique to Audi. The second-generation of digital OLED technology shapes the look of new Audi models and increases their range of functions many times over. This, in turn, improves road safety, as impressively demonstrated by the communication light in the digital OLED rear lights.
New number one and number two functions in the Digital Matrix LED: the orientation light on country roads and the lane light with direction indicator lights
We’ve all been there: it’s dark and there is a lot happening on the highway at night. The lane light with the orientation light is extremely helpful in a situation like that. It illuminates the car’s own lane, helping the driver focus on driving events. The integrated position marking from the orientation light – darkened arrows in a kind of “carpet of light” known as the lane light – predictively indicates the Audi vehicle’s position between the lane markers, encouraging safe driving in the center of the lane. With its focus on the car’s own lane markers, the lane light with the orientation light on the highway helps, for example, in narrow lanes around construction sites: the illumination is deliberately restricted to the car’s lane and not the lanes of the construction site in order to optimally center the driver’s focus on the road. Now that the headlight has been digitized, this orientation light is also available independently of the lane light on country roads, which is a new feature. That is the first new function that is made possible in additional driving situations due to digitallight technology.
Back to the highway: during lane changes, the lane light brightly illuminates both lane markers, while the orientation light indicates the car’s exact position in the lane to give the driver the most support. That is where the second new function comes into play: the direction indicator lights in the lane light. With the blinkers activated, the Digital Matrix LED headlights create a dynamic blinking area on the appropriate side of the lane light. That way, the lane light reiterates and intensifies the signal from the direction indicator lights on the road in front. This means that additional, clear information about the upcoming lane change goes out to traffic in the immediate vicinity.
are three-dimensional sculptures with dynamic character and a modern aesthetic. The V-shaped headlights of the e-tron GTquattro come in three versions: LED, Matrix LED, and laser light as an additional high beam. An expressively designed X-shaped bezel secures the Audi laser light – the additional high beam is available as an option in the e-tron GTquattro and the RS e-tron GT series. The lower area of the headlight consists of detached elements with edges illuminated in blue. The central wings of the daytime running light signature form the upper part of the X. The daytime running light signature also functions as a turn signal and consists of a series of sharply drawn angles that create a sporty look.

Audi to show cooperation with Poliform at Milan Design Week
Champion Mattias Ekström hosted by Reinhold Beckmann Orange Blue, Moritz Bleibtreu & Co. visit the DTM Audi is chasing points at Road Atlanta and Spa as well
On his way home to Sweden Mattias Ekström will stop in Hamburg: together with Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Mika Häkkinen, the DTM champion will be a guest at Reinhold Beckmann’s talk show on Channel 1 (ARD) to be recorded on Monday. The date of the broadcast has not yet been determined. Numerous celebrities are using the opportunity of the DTM season opener to visit the Audi squad. Audi’s guests include actors Moritz Bleibtreu, Claus Theo Gärtner, Mark Keller and Fritz Wepper. And prior to the band “Orange Blue“ (She’s got that light) performing in the ARD Chart Show, Audi driver Martin Tomczyk took vocalists Vince Bahrdt and Volkan Baydar on an exclusive pit lane tour – including tyre change practice. At Hockenheim, Audi Head of Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich is in constant contact with Road Atlanta (USA) and Spa-Francorchamps (B), where the Audi R8 is competing in the American Le Mans Series and the Le Mans Endurance Series. Communication works the other way round as well: Audi driver Emanuele Pirro sent a fax wishing the Audi DTM squad good luck. While Mattias Ekström’s parents Agneta and Bengt have been regular guests at Audi’s Hospitality for some time, DTM rookie Allan McNish is receiving family support as well: father Burt has been accompanying his son to almost every race ever since his karting days.
Famous music producer is fan of DTM “Is there a dream left” accompanies Audi drivers through season Free download from the internet
“Is there a dream left” – this is the name of the new song which Leslie Mandoki and his Red Rock Production have produced right in time for the start to the new DTM season this weekend at the Hockenheimring. The song will accompany the DTM Champions Timo Scheider, Mattias Ekström and their teammates during the title fight in the most popular international racing series and also support the Audi drivers at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring and the 24 Hours of Mans.
As one of Germany’s most successful, internationally active music producers, Leslie Mandoki has acquired an outstanding reputation over the past decades. All of his projects with big international stars such as Phil Collins, Lionel Richie or Joshua Kadison as well as national star acts like the No Angels reflect his passion for musical content. Mandoki was contracted by Audi as the musical director for the market launch of the Audi Q7. This project put him into contact with the DTM scene as well and gave birth to the idea of producing a song dedicated to Audi’s racers, resulting in “Is there a dream left.” “The song is a hymn of praise for the successful Audi drivers and motorsport,” explains Mandoki, who is a big fan of the DTM, motorsport and the Audi brand himself. Bobby Kimball and Chris Thompson will sing the song. Kimball is regarded as a living legend. He became famous as the vocalist of the band “Toto” and has since been successful as a soloist as well. Six Grammys and many world hits like “Africa,” “Rosanna,” or “Hold the line” were shaped by his voice. Chris Thompson became popular primarily as the vocalist of “Manfred Mann’s Earthband” – particularly with songs like “Davy’s on the road again” and “Blinded by the light.”
