Some of the answers are quite surprising, Mattias Ekström’s for example: “I always dreamed about becoming a lawyer,” admits the 2004 DTM Champion. When Martin Tomczyk was young he thought about becoming a nursery school teacher. Pierre Kaffer, who completed a vocational training programme as a vehicle mechanic would have applied for a job with Audi Sport as a mechanic. Frank Stippler studied engineering after completing his apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic. Christian Abt completed his education in the Technical Development Department of AUDI AG. Newcomer Timo Scheider would have liked to become a car designer – a statement which probably finds favour with Walter de’Silva, Head of Design of the Audi Brand Group.
Olivier Tielemans studies communication sciences, Tom Kristensen completed an apprenticeship at a bank in his native Denmark. “I would arguably have become Europe’s quickest bank car driver,” jests the Le Mans record winner. Vanina Ickx, who follows in the footsteps of Michèle Mouton and Tamara Vidali with Audi, is a biologist and could see herself studying insects as a natural scientist. Heinz-Harald Frentzen, on the other hand, always had just one ardent wish: to become a racer.
