Audi Heroes Cup - the Audi drivers

The finale of the European Football Championship between Germany and Spain is a central topic at the DTM race at the Norisring as well. Shortly before race start on Sunday at 2 p.m., the Audi drivers will send TV greetings from the grid to the German national football team and kick Euro Championship footballs into the audience.

In addition, on the evening before the Norisring race, the Audi drivers will actively participate in a football tournament themselves: At the “Audi Heroes Cup” they will be competing on a so-called “Human Kicker” together with their teams and prominent guests. The playing field has a size of twelve by six metres. The players are not allowed to move freely on the field but – like using a “kicker” football table – have to hold on to the handles of the playing rods with both hands throughout the match. The referee will be Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich.

A total of eight teams will be competing against each other in the “Audi Heroes Cup” in front of the Audi VIP lounge on “Zeppelinwiese” on Saturday night starting at 8 p.m. Five teams are formed by the Audi DTM teams with such fine-sounding names as “Rosberg Playboys”, “Green Hell Soccers”, “Lokomotive Greding”, “Fortuna Abt” and “Spielvereinigung Abt und Freunde”. In addition, “Team ARD”, “Team ITR” and the “Papier-Tiger” (paper tigers), a team of journalists, will be taking part in the competition.

The team line-ups not only reflect the names of all ten Audi DTM stars. The Audi customer team Futurecom TME has augmented its team by two Bundesliga (federal league) players. For Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline, ski jumper Sven Hannawald will be kicking the ball. The guest star in the journalists’ team is Hollywood actor Ralf Möller.

That the Audi DTM drivers will be keeping their fingers crossed for the German national team on Sunday goes without saying. All ten drivers have tipped Germany as the winner of the Euro 2008.
