Timo Bernhard and René Rast, 2018 winners of the Nations Cup at the Race of Champions
DTM champion René Rast continues to cause a sensation: On Friday in Riyadh, the Audi factory driver, together with Timo Bernhard, won the Nations Cup for Germany at the Race of Champions – as a rookie, just as he did in the DTM. In the group competition, Team Germany beat Latin America, Mexico and the USA. After their semi-final win against Saudi Arabia, Rast and Bernhard could not be beaten in the final against Latin America, with the DTM champion contributing both wins for the German team in their 2-1 victory against Juan Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves. “It’s a great feeling to have won the Nations Cup,” says René Rast. “But Timo and I also had a lot of fun.” For Germany, it was already the eighth victory in the Nations Cup. Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel won six times for Germany and Sebastian Vettel won as a sole driver in 2017. On Saturday, the individual competition in Riyadh will be on the agenda, wherein René Rast will also be competing.
