Mattias Ekström und Gary Paffett

On Saturday evening, the paddock saw an unusual duel in front of Audi’s Team and Media Hospitality: at the “AudiSpeedway“, Audi works driver Mattias Ekström and Mercedes driver Gary Paffett were competing against each other “at the wheel” of RC model cars. After losing the Super Pole against Paffett, the Audi driver took revenge by clinching victory in the race.

Prominent entrant in the entertaining RC car race was the successful swimmer, Antje Buschschulte, who had enjoyed the DTM during her visit to Zandvoort so much that she decided to come to the EuroSpeedway as well. Other guests of Audi included Christina Obergföll, runner-up in the javelin in the Track and Field World Championship at Helsinki, and the current German javelin champion, Christian Nicolay.

Albert Deuring, Technical Director of Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline turned 39 at the EuroSpeedway on race day. On the occasion of his birthday his team treated him to a cake for breakfast – complete with candles and singing of “Happy Birthday”.

With an enchanted look on his face, Frank Stippler reported about an excursion into AUDI AG’s motor racing history: in Hamburg’s historic city park race, the Audi works driver was at the wheel of a 16-cylinder Auto Union Type C 16. “An unforgettable experience,” raved Stippler.
