The Audi e-tron has been setting standards in the electric SUV luxury class category since 2018; its sales successes have made the e-tron brand famous the world over. In the spring of 2023, the new Audi Q8e-tron will continue the success story of the electric pioneer under a new name – as the top model of Audi’s electric SUVs and crossover models. Highlights include: optimized drive concept, improved aerodynamics, and higher charging performance and battery capacity, which increase the range to up to 600 kilometers (according to the WLTP). Significant updates, especially in the front of the vehicle, lend the new SUV flagship a fresher appearance.
Audi offers the new Q8 e-tron in two body variants: as a classic SUV and as a Sportback that combines the spaciousness of an SUV with the elegant lines of a large coupé. Standing 4,915 mm in length, 1,935 mm wide, and 1,633 mm (SUV) or 1,619 mm (Sportback high, the Q8 e-tron offers maximum space and comfort. The SQ8 e-tronand SQ8 Sportback e-tron models are both two millimeters flatter and 39 mm wider. The 2,928 mm wheelbase means that even rear seat occupants have plenty of legroom. The total luggage compartment volume is also generous, with around 630 liters (including frunk) in the SUV and around 590 liters in the Sportback. With dimensions like these, the Audi Q8e-tron offers ample space for five passengers and their luggage, making it the perfect car for long-distance drives.
The split rear seatbacks can be folded over individually, and a load-through hatch from the trunk to the rear seating area improves variability. Special reinforcements contribute to the convertible body’s high rigidity, and aluminum front fenders compensate for some of the added weight of the reinforcements. Elegant LED light strips illuminate in the taillights, which operate without any conventional incandescent lamps. Like the lights, the rear bumper was also redesigned; its diffuser is now much higher, and a honeycomb screen insert encloses the two large elliptical tailpipes of the exhaust system. On the trunk lid there is a subtle matt carbon spoiler lip for more downforce; it may be painted in the exterior color as an option. The Audi RS 5 Cabriolet measures 4,649 millimeters (15.25 ft) long, 1,860 millimeters (6.10 ft) wide and 1,380 millimeters (4.53 ft) high, and its wheelbase is 2,751 millimeters (9.03 ft). Eight exterior colors are available – a monochrome color, four metallic and pearl effect colors and three crystal effect paints. The soft top is available in black, gray, red or brown. As options, Audi can install a styling package in matt aluminum as well as an engine compartment design package that uses carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials. The car’s drag coefficient is 0.34; underbody panels make a significant contribution towards aerodynamic refinement. Interior A typical RS 5 highlight is its three-spoke steering wheel with flat-bottomed rim that is trimmed in perforated leather. The multifunction keys are intuitive, as are all other controls in the RS 5 Cabriolet. The terminal of the optional MMI navigation plus system, for example, only requires six permanent keys for the main menus, and just a single button control suffices for Audi drive select. White numerals on black dials provide a strong contrast and are easy to read.
Its design, with the extremely low drag coefficient of 0.25, was created in the wind tunnel; the powerful electric drive with up to 370 kW follows the e-tronquattro concept: The Audi e-tron quattro concept, the battery-electric technology study from Audi at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2015, is a whole new caliber of sporty SUV. Its range of more than 500 kilometers (310.7 mi) gives it full everyday usability. Leading technical solutions in the areas of operation and piloted driving also offer a high level of comfort and convenience. The Audi e-tron quattro concept provides a foretaste of the first production electric car from the brand with the four rings, which is scheduled to launch in 2018.
Under its new name, EKS Audi Sport, the team will compete in the 2018 FIA World Rallycross Championship (World RX) with two newly prepared Audi S1 EKS RX quattro cars. Andreas Bakkerud, one of the most successful rallycross campaigners, is joining team principal and driver Mattias Ekström on the grid in the second car.
