Two basic aspects areat play here: firstly, the efficient useof materials, and secondly, extending the product life cycle, for example by repairing and reconditioning vehicles. Inthe earliest stages of development, a great deal of influence can be exerted through the choice of materials. When vehicles are designed ‘fromthe ground up’ with the recyclability of primary materials in mind, it becomes easier to facilitate the recycling of parts later on. This can include theuseofso-called mono-materials, which do not consist of different materials that would need tobe separated out to make recycling possible. The reduce principle is also applied in production and is part of Audi’s “Mission:Zero“ environmental program. An example from Audi logistics: Wherever possible, packaging is avoided. And where packaging material is necessary, itis preferable touse recyclable and/or renewable resources. From2030, the goal isto increase the proportion of recyclable packaging materials in new vehicle projects to more than90 percent.
Reuse: enabling continued useThe reuse principle encompasses four approaches: Remanufacturing: Used parts are comprehensively reworked and reconditioned. Repair: Damage to defective parts is repaired, enabling reuse. This aspect is closely linked tothe reduce principle: Ifitis possible to extend a car’s utilization phase through repairs, this also reduces the dependency on new primary materials. Used parts: Used parts are installed to repair vehicles without being reconditioned beforehand. Second life: Vehicle components are reconditioned for non-automotive use. The following measures demonstrate how these four approaches are put into practice: Remanufacturing: Instead of new parts, Audi owners have access to resource-friendly “Audi Genuine Exchange Parts”. The Exchange 2.0 program, for example, offers a sustainable remanufacturing method for the transmission mechatronics ofthe Audi Stronic models.

Suitability for everyday use confirmed: a Paralympian and a wheelchair user test the Audi charging hub The Audi Q4 e-tron model family offers driving aids fromthe factory Ample room between charging stations and adjustable and lightweight equipment are decisive factors for easy use
When creating infrastructure for electric vehicles, itis important to remember people with mobility requirements. Audi brand ambassador Gerd Schönfelder, the most successful Winter Paralympian of all time, and Audi driver Uwe Herrmann have clear ideas on what charging without barriers and disability-friendly vehicle modifications should look like. Schönfelder lost his right arm and shoulder inan accident attheageof19, while Hermann has been usinga wheelchair since adolescence. While Schönfelder has been driving an Audi Q4 e-tron for the past 18 months, Herrmann (still) drives an Audi with a gasoline engine and is curious to hear about Schönfelder’s experiences. Atthe opening ofthe sixth Audi charging hub in Frankfurt am Main, thetwo men met up for a chat.
Gerd Schönfelder: Public charging stations must be accessible for all electric car drivers, including people with mobility needs. With its barrier-free features like the swivel arm and the height-adjustable display, the Audi charging hub isa great place for people like us with disabilities to charge their cars ina comfortable environment quickly. Inmy opinion, however, everybody benefits fromthe barrier-free concept at this charging facility. Uwe Herrmann: I’m still driving a car with a gasoline engine, but everything I’ve heard about e-mobility to date sounds positive. And the Audi charging hub looks promising, too. Sometimes, I have to ask for help filling upmy current Audi SQ5 when the car isinan awkward position. But that could soon change with an electrically powered Audi ata charging point like this.
