Dietmar Scherer - Biography

Dietmar Scherer was born in Ellenberg, Baden-Württemberg, in 1970. He studied process engineering at the University of Stuttgart and graduated with a degree in engineering in 1997. Scherer also earned a master’s degree in chemical and environmental engineering at the University of Arizona in the USA. In 2002, he completed his doctorate in surface technology at the University of Stuttgart.
Dietmar Scherer then spent three years working as a corporate consultant specializing in the automotive industry. In 2005, he joined AUDI AG’s Product Planning department, which he became the manager of in 2007. After that, Scherer held various managerial positions within the company: he headed the office of the Chairman of the Board of Management starting in 2009; the secretariat-general and Strategy and Corporate Planning department starting in 2012; the model lines starting in 2015; the Product Strategy and Platform Management department starting in 2016; the Technical Development Management department starting in 2019; and the Strategy and Innovation Management Technical Development department starting in 2020.
Dietmar Scherer also holds positions on the Supervisory Boards of several domestic and international subsidiaries of AUDI AG and the Volkswagen Group.
Since May 1, 2023, Dietmar Scherer has overseen AUDI AG’s Operational Corporate Management department.
