Infotainment and Audi connect

Audi provides a host of infotainment components for the Audi S1 and the S1 Sportback (7.0 / 7.1 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers [33.60 / 33.13 US mpg]; 162 / 166 grams of CO₂ per kilometer [260.71 / 267.15 g/mile]). The chorus radio comes as standard, with the concert radio, the connectivity package or the navigation package also available as an option. With the concert radio or higher, the fold-out onboard monitor with a 6.5-inch screen diagonal is also included.

At the top of the range is MMI navigation plus. It includes two SDHC card readers and uses a Bluetooth interface and the Audi music interface to connect cell phones and mobile players. The system comes with a DVD player and a voice control system. Using this voice control system the driver can speak the navigation address, and also control the main radio, media and telephone functions by voice. The 6.5-inch color screen provides pin-sharp images thanks to its high resolution.

A number of additional modules are available for MMI navigation plus and the concert radio. These include a six-disc CD changer and a tuner for Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB+ and DMB). In addition, the convenient Audi phone box is also included – designed as a storage tray it connects the cell phone via a planar aerial to the navigation unit and to the car’s aerial.

The Audi S1 and the S1 Sportback also lead the field when it comes to sound systems. The sonorous BOSE surround sound system is available as an alternative to the Audi sound system. A digital ten-channel amplifier with an output of 465 watts drives 14 speakers including subwoofer and can thus reproduce stereo signals in 5.1 surround sound. LEDs and light guides illuminate in white the surrounds on the front woofers/mid-range speakers.

The Audi connect module including car phone ideally complements the MMI navigation plus. It connects the compact sports cars to the Internet via the mobile network. The driver simply needs to insert a data-capable SIM card in the card reader or register a compatible cell phone via the Bluetooth profile rSAP. Signals are encrypted according to the WPA2 standard and broadcast via the exterior aerial.

Passengers can connect up to eight mobile devices to the integrated Wi-Fi hotspot so they can surf the Web and send e-mails. For the driver, the system delivers tailored Internet services from Audi connect to the car – from Audi traffic information online to navigation with Google Earth images and Google Street View to parking information. The Audi connect portfolio is growing fast and so can also be used in the S1.
