In keeping with the trade fair's theme, ‘Beyond sustainability lies recreative design – Design for well-being’, Audi is displaying the activesphere concept design study in China for the first time. It’s holistic design puts humans at the center. Henrik Wenders, Head of Audi Brand, explains: “We are positioning ourselves at the trade fair as a designer among designers. After all, Audi sets standards with its progressive design, and we don’t just mean the shape of our cars. Audi Design brings our customers immersive, sustainable, and interactive experiences, pursuing our greater philosophy of shaping our future way of life. We aim to balance nature and society for a sustainable way of life for future generations. The Audi activesphere concept embodies our philosophy perfectly.”

F1 show car with Audi Launch Livery at Auto Shanghai Development of power unit at Neuburg facility in full swing Innovation and efficiency topics in the focus of the development team
Audi is presenting its Formula 1 project in China for the first time from April 18 to 27: The F1 show car with the striking Audi Launch Livery is a central element of the brand’s presence at Auto Shanghai. Audi CEO Markus Duesmann has provided insight into the current progress of the project during the press conference.
Under the motto “F1 Power made in Germany” the company is preparing to enter the top class of motorsport. From 2026, Audi will compete in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship with its own factory team and a power unit developed in Germany. “Motorsport is an integral part of our DNA,” said Markus Duesmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, at Auto Shanghai. “We are convinced that our Formula 1 commitment will strengthen Audi’s sporting focus. The racing series is continuously increasing its global reach, especially among young target groups and in our most important sales market: China.” The Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit could not take place for a fourth consecutive time due to the pandemic, and this makes him even happier to give Chinese Formula 1 fans a preview of Audi’s future involvement in the top class of motorsport.
“The Audi Formula 1 project has really taken off in recent months,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG. “In the ongoing concept phase of the power unit, the foundation of our drivetrain for 2026 is being laid today. We attach great importance to detail work, for example on materials or manufacturing technologies, and we also focus on topics such as the energy management of the hybrid drivetrain. After all, efficiency is a key success factor for Formula 1 and the mobility of the future, these approaches will advance both worlds,” says Hoffmann.
The first batch of the charging stations will be introduced in major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen by the end of 2022. More cities and locations will follow, with locations to be chosen based on their population and traffic of premium BEV owners. “With the rollout of the Audi Charging Station, we are bringing customers in China more convenience and more ways to experience the brand’s premium e-mobility lifestyle,” said Zhou Xuelian, Project Sponsor of Audi Charging Station, Executive Vice President of Purchasing, Audi China. Advanced infrastructure prepared for the charging demands of future generation models The roll-out of the Audi Charging Station coincides with the arrival of the Audi RS e-tron GT, the technological spearhead of the brand’s electric offensive, which will meet Chinese customers at the end of this year. Audi will have launched a total of 6 BEV models in the Chinese market by the end of 2022, including Audi e-tron, Audi e-tron Sportback, Audi RS e-tron GT, Audi Q5 e-tron, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Audi Q2L e-tron. And by mid-decade, it will offer five localized premium EVs specifically tailored to Chinese customers including PPE models. With their advanced technologies, the Audi Charging Stations can meet the charging needs of all models in the Audi e-tron family through 2025. This includes the fully electric and technologically advanced models produced by the Audi FAW NEV Company which will be based on the Premium Platform Electric, or PPE.
Beyond this event, foreign offices in the club’s core markets of the United States (New York), China (Shanghai), and Southeast Asia (Bangkok) carry out and promote the German champion’s international activities. FC Bayern now has over 290,000 club members worldwide. “The virtual Audi Summer Tours we carried out the past two years were extremely well received by our fans around the world thanks to their incredibly creative content. Nevertheless, nothing can replace genuine interactions with the people in their respective homelands. Over the years, the Audi Summer Tour has become an important way to present our club globally – and in doing so, to spread our values as well as our Bavarian roots to the rest of the world,” explained Andreas Jung, Executive Board Member responsible for marketing at FC Bayern.
The company with the four rings introduced the Audi A6 Sportback with an electric drive system almost a year ago at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2021. The production-oriented A6 Avant e-tron concept car now illustrates the synthesis of pioneering drive technology and Audi’s traditional design world: the Avant.
Like the Audi A6 e-tron concept that was exhibited in 2021, the A6 Avant also has an exclusively electric drive system based on the forward-looking PPE platform, developed under Audi’s leadership. At the same time, it represents a new design concept with the same dimensions as the A6 Sportback e-tron. At 4.96 meters (16.3 ft.) long, 1.96 meters (6.4 ft.) wide, and 1.44 meters (4.7 ft.) high, its body puts it in the luxury class. Its lines are a consistent development in Audi’s contemporary formal language. Significant elements like the closed Singleframe and the continuous strip of lights in the rear emphasize its kinship with the other electrically powered Audis in the e-tron fleet. The Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept exterior model that is making its debut in March 2022 is no more a simple design exercise than the Sportback. On the contrary, its lines and elegant proportions anticipate future Audi production models and offer clues about how dynamic and elegant the electrically powered luxury class from the brand with the four rings will look. “With the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept, we are offering a completely tangible look at future production models on our new PPE technology platform,” says Audi Board Member for Technical Development Oliver Hoffmann. “We’re not just electrifying the Avant’s successful 45-year history. What we want most of all is to use technical skill to add an exclamation point. In particular, this includes powerful 800 volt technology, 270 kW of charging capacity, and a WLTP range of up to 700 kilometers (435 miles).” Sporting the A6 emblem, the concept car underscores its place in the brand’s business class.
