Le Mans 2002
Tom Kristensen

Even at the end of the 2002 motorsport season, Audi works driver Tom Kristensen continues to produce headlines. The four-time winner of the Le Mans 24 Hour race and champion of the 2002 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) received the “Zulu Award” during a gala show at Copenhagen from Danish television station TV2. Kristensen won the prize for the best sports performance of the year 2002 ahead of football star John Dahl Tomasson, member of the national team and forward of AC Milan, and the Danish national handball team.

The trophy reflects the form of an African Zulu warrior and is Kristensen´s second award within a very short time. He was honoured “Driver of the year 2002” by Denmark´s motorsports federation DASU at the beginning of November. The 35-year old Dane looks back to his most successful season in motor racing: With the Infineon Audi R8 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for a third time in a row and clinched the title in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).

"I am very proud to win these awards,“ explained Kristensen. “But they belong not only to me. We were three drivers in the winning Audi at Le Mans. My thanks go also to my team mates Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro and to Audi, who gave me the Infineon Audi R8, probably the best sports car in the world.”
