The two Bavarian Audi DTM stars Christian Abt (Kempten) and Martin Tomczyk (Rosenheim) got in the mood for the eagerly awaited DTM finale at Hockenheim on 14 October by making a trip to the Oktoberfest in Munich. They spent an entertaining evening, which only came to close as the sun rose, on the “Wiesn” together with Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich and sportscar team mate Marco Werner.

“It’s well-known that everybody at Audi Sport attaches great value to team spirit,” explained Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich. “Such an evening also strengthens the bonds.”

The Audi stars had a lot of fun at the wheel of the dodgem cars supplied by the Munich based carny Distel who has pained his dodgems in the colours of the actual DTM cars for several years. Tomczyk’s blue Red Bull Audi A4 DTM and that in the design of Mika Häkkinen’s Mercedes seemed magically attracted to one another…”

“It was a fantastic evening,” said Tomczyk who appeared in Lederhosen just like Christian Abt and Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. “I only ever used to go to the Rosenheim Autumn Fete. I only actually got to know the Oktoberfest through Audi. That was only my second visit to the Oktoberfest – but it certainly won’t be my last.”

Martin Tomczyk proved later in the Kafer marquee that it is also possible to have fun at the Oktoberfest without alcohol: “I only drank one beer and afterwards just water the entire evening,” emphasised the title candidate “After all, I still have something in mind on 14 October…”

With Martin Tomczyk, team mate Mattias Ekström and Mercedes driver Bruno Spengler, three drivers who are separated by only four points fight for the DTM title at Hockenheim. Advanced ticket sales have already reached 60,000 – a record for the DTM.
