Le Mans 2002
Tom Kristensen

Audi works driver Tom Kristensen was named “Sportsman of the year 2002” in Scandinavia. The Dane beat Swedish female Golfer Annika Sorenstam and Norwegian biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen.

In 2002, driving an Infineon Audi R8, Tom Kristensen won the legendary Le Mans 24 Hour race for a third time in a row and the drivers championship in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). “To be sportsman of the year in Scandinavia proves how popular sportscar racing has become,” explained the Audi pilot. “The Sandinavians have recognized the myth of Le Mans and the difficulties of winning three consecutive Le Mans races. Thank you for this award.”
