34 vehicles from the company's history are new to the permanent exhibition Rally, DTM, Le Mans: motor sport history - an exclusive on the paternoster Now icons such as the Audi TT, Audi RS 4andAudi A2arein the museum
It will soon be twenty years since the Audi museum mobile first opened its doors on15 December 2000. Over the first twenty years of the new millennium, Audi AGhasadded many chapters toits success story. During that time automotive classics have been created and new milestones in technological development set. To mark the museum's 20th anniversary, this gap has now been closed, giving visitors to the Audi museum mobile a better understanding of the more recent years in Audi's history. From 15 December, 34 new historic vehicle exhibits await visitors to the Audi museum mobile.
As part of this, the huge paternoster will bea delight to behold for all motor sport fans. From now on the history of motor sport at AUDI AG will be taking a ride where previously exhibits for particular topics regularly exchanged places. With the exception of the Auto Union Silver Arrows which will remain in their traditional spot on the third floor of the museum, everything which, since the 1960s, has made Audi into the sporty brand itis will be presented on the revolving platforms which accompany visitors on all four floors. This will lend a completely new quality to the motor sport exhibition. Instead of the present five exhibits, there will now be fourteen. These include the Audi A4 DTM winner from 2007, the Audi Le Mans R8 LMP prototype from 2002, the Audi A4STW from 1996, an Audi Rallyquattro Group 4 from 1980, the Audi Sport quattro Rally Group B from 1985, the NSU 1300 TT "Jägermeister" from 1975 as well as the DKW F11/64 touring car from 1963. This restructuring has made it possible to redesign the previous motor sport exhibition area on the second floor and equip it with more recent Audi icons.
Audi staged a spectacular event in America last night – not ona racetrack but on the famous Ocean Drive in Miami when the new Audi R8was unveiled to the public. Audi works driver Allan McNish drove the sportscar along the glamour mile of Florida which was closed for the occasion by American Cops.
„Ladiesand Gentlemen, I present to you the fastest convertible on Miami Beach“, said the Scotsman to some hundred onlookers. The improved Audi R8, which finished third onitsLe Mans 24 Hour debut last year, will compete in the American Le Mans Series this year. „For the first time wearedoingan entire championship with the car but wedo not know the circuits in America very well. Nevertheless we want to achieve a place in the top three“, said Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Sport, who went onto confirm the Audi R8‘s main improvements over last year’s car. „We concentrated on aerodynamics and especially reducing the frontal area,“ continued Dr. Ullrich. Furthermore the kerb weight has been reduced so that engineers can then make detail revisions to suit the different racetracks. The monocoque of the 610 bhp sportscar also changed offering the drivers greater protection due toa higher cockpit surround. In readiness for the start of the season, the driver combinations have now been fixed. In the American Le Mans Series, Frank Biela lines up with Tom Kristensen and Emanuele Pirro while Michele Alboreto partners Rinaldo Capello and Allan McNish. AtLe Mans, where three Audi R8s will race, the line-upsare Frank Biela / Tom Kristensen / Emanuele Pirro and Christian Abt / Michele Alboreto / Rinaldo Capello plus Laurent Aiello / Allan McNish / Stéphane Ortelli. This last combination won Le Mans in 1998. „That’s why we wanted to keep this team“, addedDr. Wolfgang Ullrich. Audi plans to enter the entire season of the American Le Mans Series. That includes nine races in North America plus races at Silverstone (Great Britain) andon the Nürburgring (Germany).
