Infos zum Rennen
Neben dem neuen Event in Silverstone feiert die Rallycross-WM in diesem Jahr eine weitere Premiere: Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der Rennserie wird ein Lauf in den USA ausgetragen. Schauplatz ist der Circuit of the Americas (COTA), auf dem seit dem Jahr 2012 der Große Preis der USA in der Formel-1-Weltmeisterschaft sowie seit 2013 auch Rennen der Motorrad-Weltmeisterschaft stattfinden. Der auf fünf Jahre geschlossene Vertrag mit der Rallycross-WM sieht, ähnlich wie in Silverstone, ein Festival-Wochenende mit weiteren spektakulären Rahmenrennen und Events abseits der Strecke vor.

Der Kurs liegt im Stadionbereich des Formel-1-Kurses zwischen den Kurven 12 und 15 und wartet mit einem spektakulären Sprung auf. Bereits vor der Premierenveranstaltung der Rallycross-WM blickt der COTA auf eine Rallycross-Vergangenheit zurück. 2014 fand auf der Strecke im Rahmen der X-Games ein Rennen der Global Rallycross Championship (GRC) statt, das der dreimalige GRC-Champion Scott Speed gewann.

During the first outing for the World RX in the USA, EKS Audi Sport scored its seventh top 3 result of the season. With temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius. both drivers in the Audi S1 EKS RX quattro reached the final for the best six. The Norwegian Andreas Bakkerud took third overall while team mate Mattias Ekström finished the final in fifth place after contact with an opponent. Both EKS Audi Sport drivers had made their way into the final with strong performances in the preliminary races: team owner Mattias Ekström held second in the intermediate standings after the first day, and won third qualifying as well as the semi-final on Sunday. With consistently good times in the qualifying sessions and a third place in the semi-final, Andreas Bakkerud also made the final. In the decisive race for the best six, the Norwegian drove a flawless race in the hot and humid temperatures of over 30 degrees to finish third.
