With the Audi A5, Audi is continuing its history of success in the mid-size segment: thirty years after the first Audi A4, the latest generation is now called the Audi A5. Both body variants, Sedan and Avant, perfectly embody the sporty essence of the Audi design philosophy. Efficient, partially electrified combustion engines with MHEV plus systems and emotional S models distinguish the Audi A5 family. The latest generation of the Audi A5 has two new family members: the first plug-in hybrids for the A5 model series, the Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid quattro and the Audi A5 Sedan e-hybrid quattro, enable up to 110 kilometers of purely electric driving.

The new Audi RS 5 is Audi Sport’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid (PHEV) – with real RS DNA and the highly-tuned hybrid-technology to match. Whether carving canyons, running highway marathons, or gliding through town on electric power – the RS 5 masters any situation with agility and impressive precision. It covers an extremely wide spread of driving dynamics – from comfortable every-day companion to potent performer. For the first time at Audi Sport, the powertrain pairs a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 outputting 375 kW (510 PS) and a 130 kW electric motor. They are joined by bespoke RS sport suspension with twin-valve shock absorbers and a completely new quattro drivetrain with Dynamic Torque Control, enabling electromechanical torque vectoring at the rear as a world first. The new center differential has a preload to always remain partially locked, managing longitudinal torque distribution. Transverse torque distribution at the rear is provided by a new differential that can shift torque between the wheels in milliseconds. MHEV plus: the next generation of hybridization at Audi

With the new A5 and Q5 series built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), Audi has launched its first combustion engines with the new MHEV plus technology. With its unique interplay between the powertrain generator (PTG), belt alternator starter (BAS), and a lithium iron phosphate battery, the 48-volt mild hybrid system supports the combustion engine, reduces carbon emissions, and simultaneously increases performance and agility. The PTG, which can be fully coupled or decoupled, features integrated power electronics and an electric motor that enables partially electric driving. This reduces consumption and makes for an even smoother driving experience.
