Audi R8 LMS clinches first titles of the 2025 season
Customer teams in New Zealand win endurance classifications Audi private teams provide variety in Italian touring car racing Debut for “Dakar Chronicles” in Paris
The International Motorsport customer team celebrated a strong winning streak in New Zealand with a well-deserved title win for its Audi R8 LMS. The brand’s customers also remain the benchmark in touring car racing, as the halfway point of the TCR Italy season proves. A film premiere with the Audi RS Q e-tron drew a lot of applause in the city center of Paris.
Audi R8 LMS GT3 First title successes of the season in New Zealand: The North Island Endurance Series completed the last two of its three championship rounds in the space of just one calendar week. After 2016, 2017 and 2023, the title in the 3-hour category was decided in favor of an Audi customer team for the fourth time. Sam Fillmore and Jonny Reid won both races with Team International Motorsport (IMS) in the Audi R8 LMS, having already prevailed in the season opener. This is Fillmore’s second title after 2023 and Reid’s third after 2016 and 2023. The second event at Hampton Downs turned out to be a thrilling comeback race. After a spin and a safety car period, Fillmore was one lap down. One of the strategic moves that made the success possible was a pit stop during which the team only changed the tires on the left side of the car, which were subject to higher loads. After three hours of racing, Sam Fillmore/Jonny Reid achieved a narrow victory with a lead of 0.851 seconds. Second place went to another Audi team: Steve Brooks/Ryan Wood were the best pursuers in the Audi R8 LMS from Wolfbrook Motorsport. Wood continued to close the gap, but was unable to overtake the leading Audi. The final race, again held at Hampton Downs, took place a week later. At 21.1 seconds, Fillmore/Reid’s lead was bigger than ever before this season. The two New Zealanders then celebrated their title win with a 23-point lead.

Audi R8 LMS GT3 Victories in America and Italy: Memo Gidley took the first victory for SKI Autosports in the Audi R8 LMS in America. In the GT America powered by AWS racing series, the experienced sports car driver started the first race at the fourth event on the Sebring circuit in second place. He overtook an opponent’s BMW, which had started from first place, in the early stages of the race and built up a lead. However, an infringement of the regulations by his team in the pre-start phase meant a five-second penalty for the private Audi driver. Gidley managed to make up for this disadvantage during the 40-minute race. In the end, he won by 0.364 seconds ahead of BMW driver Justin Rothberg. Gidley finished second in the second race. Two Audi customer teams celebrated a successful weekend at the third round of the 24H European Series. Team Haas RT achieved overall victory at the 12h Misano, after an Audi R8 LMS had already prevailed at this event a year earlier. Peter Guelinckx/Matisse Lismont/Jef Machiels crossed the finish line in the Haas RT Audi R8 LMS after 416 laps with a lead of just under a minute. Victory in the GT3-Am class and fourth place overall went to Juta Racing with the driver trio of Arunas Geciauskas/Nicola Michelon/Tim Müller. Continental Racing by Simpson Motorsport provided the third-best amateur team on the Italian Adriatic coast with David Pogosian/Andrey Solukovtsev/Vasily Vladykin in another R8 LMS.

Team Tresor Attempto Racing, which started from pole position, crossed the finish line in Misano as winners with the Audi R8 LMS after three hours of racing. Riccardo Cazzaniga/Rocco Mazzola/Fabio Rauer won the first of four endurance races on the circuit on the Adriatic coast by 1.2 seconds. Audi R8 LMS GT3 Dominant form in the Pacific region: Audi’s customer teams enjoyed their best weekend of the season so far at the third round of the GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS. After their opening success in April, Broc Feeney/Brad Schumacher celebrated their second win of the season at the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS in Queensland. The driver duo from Kelso Electrical Team MPC started from pole position and crossed the finish line in the first one-hour race with a 10.5-second lead. Spins and numerous penalties for many competitors characterized the first of two races. In the second race, the Audi R8 LMS scored a one-two-three. Alex Peroni/Mark Rosser led from the start after a strong start. After 43 laps, the driver duo from the BRM ACM Finance team had a 0.374-second lead over Brendon Leitch/Tim Miles in the Dayle ITM Team MPC Audi. They were followed by Feeney/Schumacher in third place, 1.1 seconds behind. They are second in the Pro-Am category at the halfway point of the season. In the Am class, Renee Gracie was delighted with two victories in the Audi R8 LMS of Only Fans Team MPC, while Gary Higgon/Paul Stokell prevailed for KFC Team MPC in both competitions in the Trophy class in another Audi. Audi R8 most successful Le Mans sports car of the modern era
At the end of the nineties, Audi opened a new chapter when the brand turned its attention to the challenge of sports prototypes. As before in the other disciplines, the aim here was to assert the claim of “Vorsprung durch Technik”. At its debut in Le Mans, the world’s toughest endurance race, Audi immediately made it onto the podium in 1999 with third place. In the following years, the Audi R8 was in a class of its own. From 2000 to 2002, Audi achieved a historic hat-trick, also thanks to the TFSI technology that was used for the first time in 2001 and later found its way into large scale production. In 2004 and 2005, customer teams clinched two more overall victories for Audi at Le Mans. The R8 secured its place in motorsport history with a total of 63 victories in 80 sports car races. quattro for the racetrack
Making quattro all-wheel drive ready for the racetrack was Audi’s major task in the second half of the 1980s. The series of successes began in 1988 with the Audi 200 quattro and in 1989 with the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO in the USA. In 1990 and 1991, the Audi V8 quattro won two championship titles in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM). Subsequently, the 80 and A4 models continued the successes in the category of production-based super touring cars. In 1996, the Audi A4 quattro won the championship titles in seven countries before the FIA banned all-wheel drive in circuit races. It was not until 2012 that all-wheel drive returned to the racetrack as the e-tron quattro at Le Mans.
Customer racing
From the early beginnings with the Audi R8 LMS in the ever-growing GT3 category, the brand with the four rings expanded its customer racing program with the GT4 and GT2 versions of the Audi R8 LMS, as well as the entry-level Audi RS 3 LMS for the TCR category for touring car racings around the globe.
