Dave Maraj

The team principal of the former Audi team Champion Racing, Dave Maraj, died in an accident on July 21. “We are deeply saddened by this news and express our condolences to his family,” said Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass. “Dave Maraj and his team decisively shaped the era of the sports prototypes in the United States. His string of success was impressive and we will always remember him as a great personality.” Following touring car successes with Audi, Champion Racing won the American Le Mans Series five times with sports prototypes from Ingolstadt, most recently in the 2008 season. The team also entered its name on the winners’ list of the world’s most prestigious endurance race: in 2005, Tom Kristensen/JJ Lehto/Marco Werner won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in an Audi R8 of the Florida-based team.
