DTM Nürburgring 2015
Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM #5 (Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline), Mattias Ekström

The important DTM weekend at the Nürburgring could hardly have begun any better for Mattias Ekström. The Swede in his Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM set the fastest time (1m 23.679s) in the first free practice session in perfect conditions. Ekström relegated three BMW drivers to positions two to four and, accordingly, was in high spirits: “My car was top from the first lap on. Obviously, this is just a free practice – still, it’s a good feeling to start the weekend with a best time.”

The second-best Audi driver was Mike Rockenfeller in the Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM in position eleven. At the beginning of the session, ‘Rocky’ was at the front of the field and subsequently concentrated on race simulations.

Edoardo Mortara, due to a defective valve on the brake line of his Castrol EDGE Audi RS 5 DTM, was only able to drive eleven laps in the first free practice.

For the first time this season, the second free practice will be held on Friday as well (starting at 16.15). On Saturday, at 10.15, the drivers will directly start qualifying for race one (start at 13.25 CEST/live on ‘Das Erste’).
