Thunderstorms, heavy rain and constantly changing track conditions made for an unpredictable final top qualifying 2 at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. In the end, Team Phoenix Racing posted the best lap time of an Audi R8 LMS. Privateer driver Nicki Thiim qualified the number 11 GT3 sports car for eighth place on the grid. In the process, the Dane improved his own lap time by several seconds in his second attempt in pouring rain. Second-best Audi in the field was the number 29 Audi Sport Team Land car. Audi Sport driver Kelvin van der Linde finished in 13th place, sharing the seventh row of the grid with fellow Audi Sport driver Frank Stippler from Audi Sport Team Phoenix. Two rows behind follows Dennis Marschall, another Audi Sport driver from the Phoenix Racing squad. Christopher Haase qualified for the eleventh row of the grid with Audi Sport Team Car Collection, trailed by teammate Patric Niederhauser. A fourth Audi customer team will start from pole position in its class: The ladies squad of Pippa Mann/Célia Martin/Christina Nielsen/Carrie Schreiner in the Audi R8 LMS GT4 was the faster of two teams in the SP8 class.
