Ulf Berkenhagen was born on 25th January 1961 in Wolfsburg.
He joined Volkswagen AG on 1st August 1977 where he trained as an industrial business management assistant.
After holding several administrative posts in Purchasing at Volkswagen AG, he began a part-time degree in business administration at the Academy of Management and Economy Studies in Brunswick in 1986, graduating in 1990.
On 1st February 1991 he assumed a managerial position in the Purchasing – Chemicals department at Volkswagen AG. This was followed by further managerial posts within Purchasing over the next few years.
Ulf Berkenhagen was appointed Head of Purchasing at SEAT S.A. on 1st August 1996.
On 1st March 1998, he was made Head of Purchasing for Interior Equipment and Glass for Volkswagen Passenger Cars in Wolfsburg. Subsequent to this, Ulf Berkenhagen was appointed Head of Group Purchasing for Electrics/Electronics on 1st May 2000. In December 2001, he was granted commercial power of attorney.
In 2004 and 2005, he assumed an additional management function at Group level as part of the ForMotion cost efficiency programme.
From 1st Oktober 2006 to 31st August 2012 Ulf Berkenhagen took over responsibility for Purchasing on the AUDI AG Board of Management.
