The competition will take place every two years and, for each award cycle, Audi will invite internationally renowned architectural firms to conceptualize the urban realm of the future and the possibilities of mobility within it. In addition to technical solutions, the outcome should also incorporate particularly social, ecological and aesthetic aspects. In the first year of the Audi Urban Future Award, AUDI AG has been able to enlist the participation of the following architectural firms: Alison Brooks Architects (London), BIG (Copenhagen), Cloud 9 (Barcelona), Diller Scofidio + Renfro (New York), J. Mayer H. Architects (Berlin) und Standardarchitecture (Beijing).
Stylepark AG in Frankfurt is supporting Audi as a partner in developing the concept and thematic focus of the award. Christian Gärtner, Member of the Management Board, looks forward to cooperating with the automotive company from Ingolstadt: “The transformation of the city is a central theme for the future. Whereas the automobile has thus far shaped the appearance of cities, in the future it could be a city’s structure that determines which types of mobility are developed. The future is shaped on the one hand by architects, and by mobility providers on the other. With the Audi Urban Future Award, we want to bring both areas together and initiate a serious examination and discussion.”
The opening event of the Audi Urban Future Award will take place in London. In a workshop as well as a conference on April 20, 2010, participating architects will introduce their initial concepts and hypotheses. A jury of international experts will select the award winner. Audi will present the results of the Audi Urban Future Award 2010 on the occasion of the 12th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale.
