The entire production concept in Aurangabad is closely based on the small-series production of the Audi R8 sports car in Neckarsulm. The Audi A6 for example is assembled from approximately 2,500 parts in eight working cycles each lasting 45 minutes. The Indian employees first pass through comprehensive training courses at the Neckarsulm plant before they take up their demanding tasks in Aurangabad. Production takes place on four separate assembly lines – one for the Audi A4 and the Audi Q5, one for the Audi A6, and in a separate production hall, one line for the Audi Q7 and another for the Audi A3 together with the Audi Q3.
The material for the individual assembly cycles is provided in so-called “shopping baskets.” In a so-called “supermarket,” the logistics employees select the parts that are to be fitted to a certain car and place them into the shopping basket. The employees on the assembly line take the material for the current automobile out of the basket. This means that the employees do not have to leave their working area to fetch the required parts.
